Dido's Lament

May 15, 2015

"When I am laid, am laid in earth
may my wrongs create no trouble, no trouble in thy breast...

Remember me, remember me
remember me but forget my fate..."

Wait a minute...

You don't want to be remembered really, do you? You can't be remembered without stirring up a troubled heart because remembering you comes with remembering your death.

Respectable, but impossible.

Here's my version.

When I am laid, am laid in hell
For my wrongs, and trouble in thy breast.
Forget me, forget all about me,
but if you must remember, remember my end.

More beneficial to the world as a cautionary tale of causes and consequences.
Internal heroism and victimization is poisonous to the soul.
